PSHE
INTENT
In PHSE, we support the children’s emotional and mental wellbeing in a number of ways, enabling children to flourish whilst learning how to keep themselves and others safe. We follow the Jigsaw PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) scheme of work which offers children a broad and balanced curriculum enabling them to leave primary school with the knowledge, skills and attributes in order to manage their lives, now and in the future. We aim to develop confident, independent learners who are considerate to the thoughts and feelings of others and have a good understanding of the world around them, supporting them in seeking positive transformation in the world. We aim to give them strategies to make safe and informed decisions and to lead healthy, safe and responsible lives, prepared for life in Modern Britain.
IMPLEMENTATION
In PHSE, all lessons follow the same structure. It begins with a time for reflection and calm, using the Jigsaw 'calm me' script. There is then the introduction of new learning, discussions, questions and reflections, before finishing with a next step for their personal journey.
Lessons are underpinned with the rules for PHSE lessons, where children are invited to share but never expected to share, they are expected to keep the discussions within the classroom and respect others during the sessions.
The Jigsaw curriculum is also supplemented with additional resources from Pol-Ed (a police supported resource that encourages children to be safe), along with specific focus weeks, such as Children's Mental Health week, Anti-bullying Week, Internet Safety Week, road safety, bikeability (cycling safety) and Big Talk Education - Growing up Safe programme.
In addition to this, children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own wellbeing with support from With Me in Mind, the NHS service, and their Wellbeing Ambassador programme. Children in school are encouraged to apply for the role, undergo training with WMIM practitioners and deliver child-led clubs and sessions during the school day.
We also engage with the WMIM service to deliver both parent and child workshops within the school to support specific issues relating to mental health.
IMPACT
Pupil voice shows that children are able to talk about what they need to do to keep themselves safe.

Jigsaw PHSE
Welcome to Jigsaw 3-11/12
Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE/HWB, brings together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. A lesson a week with the teaching resources included, helps teachers to focus on tailoring the lessons to their children’s needs and to enjoy building the relationship with their class, getting to know them better as unique human beings.
Teaching strategies are varied and are mindful of preferred learning styles and the need for differentiation. Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. This enables each Puzzle to start with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike.
Other Jigsaw Programmes can be added once this universal curriculum is established e.g:

- The Jigsaw Outdoors Programme
- We also have the Jigsaw 11-16 Secondary PSHE Programme to ensure through-progression from age 3-16

Pol-Ed
Our Vision
Pol-Ed supports schools in delivering expertly planned lessons designed to develop a deep awareness of risks, citizenship, and the law. The Pol-Ed team have focussed the coverage of the materials to address priority areas of policing, such as sexual violence and harassment; child on child abuse; and the perception that young people have of the police.
Pol-Ed is designed so that our lessons can be used to compliment the existing PSHE provision. The resources are standalone.
